STABILO SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHES THE DIGI-PEN FOR OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY APPLICATIONS.

STABILO's DigiPen, which was presented as a study at CES in spring 2016, has now been successfully launched as a product for occupational therapists. It is used as an ErgoPen in occupational therapy to assess handwriting skills.

The Digipen uses sensors to measure the position in space and the acceleration when writing, which can be done as usual with an integrated refill on normal paper. The ErgoPen records the writing pressure, the frequency and the degree of automation of the writing. Inside the digipen, in addition to a 350 mAh battery that is charged via a micro USB port, there is also a Bluetooth low-energy module for data transmission to the wirelessly connected receiving devices such as tablets or smart phones.

"The STABILO ErgoPen is the solution for evidence-based therapy. The pen detects graphomotor and writing motor abnormalities during use by the patient and transfers these to the associated app. This enables targeted therapy based on a quick analysis. The appearance and writing behavior are similar to those of a normal pen, but the inner workings and analysis options in the ErgoPen app make it an innovative and indispensable tool for the occupational therapist's daily work."

BUSSE supported STABILO in the product design of the new pen, which is also intended to bridge the gap between a fresh, dynamic design for younger target groups and the classic fountain pen. BUSSE also implemented the design of the plastic parts so that STABILO was able to use and test functional prototypes and initial samples within a short development time.
