Bucher Schörling, the world's leading manufacturer of municipal vehicles for sweeping and clearing snow from roads, paths and squares, wanted a new look for the City Cat 1000 series. A challenging order from Switzerland for BUSSE, as the customer had set clear specifications.

Bucher Schörling's smallest cabin sweeper is barely more than one meter wide, robustly built and reliable in operation. The agile City Cat 1000 shows its strengths wherever narrow or difficult to access areas need to be swept: in parking garages and shopping centers, residential complexes or narrow alleys and sidewalks in city centers. Two large pushed brooms, each with a diameter of 70 cm, sweep up to a width of 2.2 meters.

The most important feature and responsible for the success of the City Cat 1000 is its exceptionally compact design, which is crucial for effective use. At the same time, this compactness sets the limits for the creative scope of the BUSSE designers, as the technical functions, configuration of the assemblies and manufacture of the machine had to be retained.

As the new generation is an evolutionary continuation of its predecessors, the aim was to add an emblematic design feature that would characterize the new generation in a striking yet non-decorative way. The belt-like beading running diagonally from the driver's door to the rear around the body lends the vehicle's strongly functional appearance a recognizable new shape. Breaking up the horizontal lines makes the appearance more dynamic. Referencing the driver's seat at the front, it emphasizes the functionality and structure of the vehicle.

The highly glazed driver's cab can thus be positively integrated into the difficult overall proportions of the vehicle and the visual focus is shifted more towards the center of the vehicle, making a decisive contribution to the coherence of the overall appearance.

This design task is a good example of the professional and sensitive handling of largely given components and dimensions, which are to be optimally supported and enhanced in their unchanged state.

The product designers at BUSSE used the clearly defined free spaces in a skillful, disciplined and creative way to give the new generation of Bucher Schörling appliances a contemporary and unmistakable look - a successful example of the unity of function and design!
